It’s not a free trial, but really free. It worked on a blu-ray released in 2009 but didn’t work on a blu-ray released in 2020. After it tried to run the 2020 disc it came up prompt saying for more recent blurays have to upgrade to full version. Then at the website have to choose between just the BR version or combined BR/DVD version. Based on all that probably none of the versions will work on 4K. Thanks again Max

Apparently there is a free version DVDFabPasskey9385 that does not work with the most recent types of blu-ray and resulting in needing to purchase. Next it asks to purchase either the just blu-ray version or the combined dvd/blu ray version. So apparently the product has changed greatly. Thanks for your help
